Nigh transwomen are all besides familiar with the trademark furnishings of taking estrogen – softer skin, fat redistribution, boobs, etc, etc. Merely there are loads of other MTF HRT effects that can kick in to a greater or bottom extent. I've been doing my research.

So you lot're a transwoman and you're near to start your HRT journeying. Congratulations, girl! Get yourself prepare for a bigger haul and a trimmer tum, and prepare to say goodbye to your trunk hair and peradventure even your erections.

These are all common effects of MTF HRT, and pretty much all transwomen will experience all of them, to i degree or another. Hither's a timeline of what's what:

Also as these effects, y'all tin add in the fact that you'll likely feel a lot happier (handy for those of us with depression), your face will become more than rounded and feminine, and you'll become a lot more emotional – go the Kleenex ready.

These are all pretty well-known facts virtually starting estrogen and testosterone blockers. And, seeing as I'1000 nigh to get-go my ain HRT adjacent month, I thought I'd run across if in that location was annihilation else that may be in store but doesn't get talked almost quite so much.

1. Orgasms

Men's and women'southward orgasms are completely different. I one time read that they're 10 times stronger than male orgasms. So while HRT might cause shrinking and reduced erections, on the flipside of the coin is the fact that transwomen can get female orgasms. And you don't need an erection or an ejaculation to take one either.

ii. Smell

I've read quite a lot of comments from transwomen who report a massively improved sense of smell. That'due south really good from my point of view, because mine ain't the greatest and never has been. Your body olfactory property volition likewise change as you start pumping out sweet female pheromones rather than the musky male person ones. Be warned, though, apparently the smell of men really stands out to transwomen (and cis women) – not great on a hot summer's day when they're a chip sweaty. Specially if you're non into guys.

3. Sexuality

Which brings the states nicely on to sexuality. In nearly cases, your sexuality ain't gonna modify. If y'all like smooching girls before HRT, you'll still similar smooching them afterwards. But I've read a few accounts of transwomen condign attracted to men after starting HRT. Probably not plenty that they'd go off girls, but it might motion picture a bisexual/pansexual switch in some people.

iv. Eyelashes

This is a new i on me, only apparently HRT can make your eyelashes thicker, longer and more feminine. A nice piddling dazzler bonus there for trans girls who care about how their eyes expect.

5. Extremities

Information technology's pretty well known already that taking estrogen causes huge reduction in muscle mass, making the body appear slimmer and more feminine. You'll also lose a shed load of force. What I didn't realise until recently is that this tin can also cause your easily and feet to shrink – and I've even read accounts of people losing an inch or two in acme.

6. Taste

Some transwomen written report that their sense of taste changes – they might become off foods that they'd always eaten before and start to like those that they'd previously avoided. Cravings tin exist common. It's not just taste in food that tin can change either. I've read a few accounts of people's taste in terms of music and Television changing.

vii. Chocolate

Virtually women love chocolate, but I've never really realised why – it's just been a nice sweet care for to me up to at present. But add a fiddling estrogen to your system and chocolate becomes a drug, helping ease stress, combat fatigue and just make you feel awesome. Looking forward to that!

viii. Nails

One of the bad things about HRT is that it tin can make your fingernails more fragile, which sucks because mine snap all the time as it is, particularly in the winter. Might be time to outset using my little canteen of almond oil on them to continue them supple.

9. Cold

Where I'grand from, we have a word for people who feel the cold more than virtually: nesh. Despite the extra layers of fat, rumour has it that HRT can make transwomen feel the cold more before. And when you look at how unbelievably thin nigh women'southward jumpers are, that's gonna be a pain in the arse. Time to order some thermals perhaps.

10. Spots

Starting MTF HRT is literally starting a second puberty (unless y'all transition in your teens). So you can expect all of the crap that you had to put upwards with the first fourth dimension round, such as spots and mood swings. Deep joy. At to the lowest degree my vocalisation won't intermission this time – and I won't start growing a shit beard.

Just finally, I've decided to accept a brusque career interruption for a few weeks so that I can concentrate on myself (and practise some work on my firm) while I start MTF HRT. As the time draws nearer, I am just getting more and more than happy, and more and more excited. The feelings of apprehension are still there, simply they're far less prominent than they one time were. I can't expect to get started!
